A group of eight U.S. senators has sent letters to major tech firms, including X, Meta, and Alphabet, demanding details on how they plan to prevent and remove non-consensual AI-generated sexualized images from their platforms.

Eight U.S. senators have sent letters to major technology companies, including X, Meta Platforms, Inc., and Alphabet, demanding information about how they plan to curb the spread of non-consensual sexualized AI-generated images on their platforms, according to a press release from Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester’s office.

The letter, signed by Senators Blunt Rochester, Tammy Baldwin, Richard Blumenthal, Kirsten Gillibrand, Mark Kelly, Ben Ray Luján, Brian Schatz, and Adam Schiff, calls on the companies to clarify their policies on deepfake and non-consensual intimate imagery. The senators requested documentation of current enforcement practices, internal moderation guidance, and technical measures used to prevent and detect manipulated content.

According to the letter, recent reports found that users have exploited AI tools to create sexualized “bikini” or “non-nude” images of individuals without consent, with some content depicting minors. The senators also asked the companies to outline how they notify victims, prevent monetization of such material, and suspend accounts posting it.

The companies have until January 29, 2026, to respond with details on their definitions, safeguards, and enforcement mechanisms for addressing AI-generated sexual content.
