Taiwan Indicts Nine Over Alleged AI Server Exports to China

Taiwan prosecutors indicted nine people over alleged illegal exports of AI servers with Nvidia chips to China. The case involves 130 Supermicro B300 servers, with 74 allegedly delivered to Chinese customers and 56 stopped by Taiwan customs.

Taiwan prosecutors indicted nine people, including employees of NVIDIA and Supermicro, over alleged illegal exports of AI servers to China, Reuters reports.

Prosecutors in Keelung said eight defendants were charged with breach of trust and document forgery related to the export of high end AI servers. A ninth defendant was charged in a related case involving alleged siphoning of funds from a distributor company.

The case centers on 130 B300 servers ordered from Supermicro. Prosecutors said false documents stated the servers would be installed at a rented facility in Taiwan, while 74 were ultimately delivered to Chinese customers through direct shipments and routes through Indonesia, Japan and Hong Kong. Taiwan customs stopped the export of the remaining 56 servers after detecting irregularities.

The servers contained NVIDIA chips covered by US export controls. NVIDIA said it would work with Taiwan authorities, while Supermicro said it is not a target of the investigation and has not been accused of wrongdoing.
