Turnitin Finds Lower AI Outsourcing Rates in Clarity
Turnitin said in a press release that student submissions written in Clarity were less likely to receive an AI writing score above 80% than submissions created outside the platform. In the United States, the rate was 7.6% for Clarity submissions and 14.3% for other submissions.
The report found corresponding rates of 3.96% and 6.7% in Australia and New Zealand. In the United Kingdom, 7.2% of Clarity submissions received a score above 80%, compared with 9.6% of other submissions. The analysis covered work submitted from July 1, 2025, through August 26, 2026.
Turnitin also analyzed 840,889 prompts sent through the Clarity AI assistant. It found that 66% of students completed assignments without using the assistant, 20% used one to five prompts, and 14% used six or more prompts.
Among secondary students, brainstorming and outline creation were the most common preset prompts. Higher education students most often requested feedback based on rubrics and assignment organization.
