TIER IV has signed a memorandum of understanding with Elm to explore opportunities for developing autonomous driving solutions in Saudi Arabia, announced in a press release. This collaboration aims to foster the development of sovereign autonomous mobility and implement advanced autonomous driving technologies in the region.

The partnership will leverage Elm's expertise in digital services and TIER IV's experience with Autoware, an open-source software for autonomous driving. The companies plan to promote new mobility services, such as robotaxis, tailored to local driving environments and regulations in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, they aim to develop local engineering talent through Autoware-based training programs and autonomous driving competitions.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which includes making 15% of public transportation autonomous by 2030. The collaboration is further supported by initiatives between the governments of Japan and Saudi Arabia to drive economic development and innovation in both public and private sectors.
