TIER IV Advances Autonomous Truck Deployment in Japan
TIER IV has completed a significant initiative in collaboration with the Japanese government to advance the deployment of autonomous trucks, announced in a press release. The project, overseen by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), involved developing an autonomous driving system for highway logistics using commercial trucks from Isuzu and Mitsubishi Fuso.
The autonomous trucks successfully conducted test runs on a new priority lane for autonomous vehicles on the Shin-Tomei Expressway, with support from logistics partners Yamato Multi Charter and Suzuyo Cargo-Net. This marks a significant milestone in creating a scalable and flexible autonomous driving system that can be utilized by various vehicle manufacturers and logistics operators.
TIER IV is committed to advancing autonomous driving technology through its AI-based approach, Autonomy 2.0, and enhancing its open-source software, Autoware. These efforts aim to accelerate the deployment of autonomous trucks and address critical logistics challenges in Japan.
