Temporal and OpenAI have launched a new integration aimed at enhancing the development of production-grade AI agents, announced in a press release. This collaboration allows engineering teams to combine the OpenAI Agents SDK with Temporal's Durable Execution engine, facilitating the creation and scaling of reliable agentic systems.

The integration, developed in collaboration with OpenAI, is now available in public-preview for the Temporal Python SDK. It supports a model-agnostic design, enabling developers to choose their preferred LLM provider without vendor lock-in. By incorporating Temporal's Durable Execution model, developers can move agents into production more efficiently, eliminating the need for custom state machines or orchestration scaffolding.

Key features of this integration include persistent state for long-running agents, built-in retries and fault recovery, horizontal scalability, and end-to-end observability. These capabilities aim to reduce orchestration overhead and development friction, allowing teams to scale agentic systems with greater confidence and efficiency.
