Strider and SCSP Report Highlights China's AI Infrastructure Expansion
Strider Technologies, Inc. and the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) have released a report detailing China's extensive efforts to expand its AI infrastructure. Announced in a press release, the report reveals that the People's Republic of China (PRC) is rapidly advancing its AI capabilities through a coordinated, state-directed campaign that integrates commercial growth with military modernization.
The report, titled "China's AI Infrastructure Surge: How PRC Data Centers and AI Models Bridge Military Ambitions and Global Connections," documents the PRC's construction of over 250 specialized AI data centers. This expansion aims to meet the 2025 goal for the computing power necessary to operate advanced AI systems at scale. The findings indicate that China's processing capacity significantly exceeds official targets, suggesting a broader and long-term infrastructure strategy.
Additionally, the report identifies 856 PRC stakeholder organizations involved in the AI data center buildout, with 88 entities having ties to the People's Liberation Army or U.S.-sanctioned organizations. This suggests that the AI infrastructure is intended to serve military objectives from the outset. The report also highlights China's aggressive subsidization of AI hardware and software through national policies and international collaborations.
