Sora for Android Reaches 470,000 Installs on First Day
The Android version of the Sora app from OpenAI saw an estimated 470,000 installs on its first day, marking a strong start for the AI video creation platform. The app is available in the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The Android rollout follows the earlier iOS launch, which was limited to the U.S. and Canada and required an invite. The invite restriction was lifted in late October for several key markets, opening access to a wider user base.
The Android launch outperformed the iOS debut, which initially recorded around 110,000 first-day downloads. The majority of Android installs, approximately 296,000, came from users in the U.S. The app allows users to generate videos using prompts and features a 'Cameos' function that animates users and their friends within scenes.
Sora continues to maintain strong engagement on iOS, where it remains among the top free apps in the U.S. App Store. Its expansion to Android underscores growing interest in AI-driven video creation tools.
