Sophont, a medical AI startup, has raised $9.22 million in seed funding to develop multimodal AI systems for healthcare, announced in a press release. The funding round was led by Kindred Ventures, with participation from Upfront Ventures, Delphi Ventures, and notable figures such as Jeff Dean from Google DeepMind.

Sophont is focused on building large-scale AI systems capable of analyzing diverse clinical data, including pathology slides, brain scans, and lab results. The company aims to provide medical AI infrastructure and plans to release advanced model backbones later this year. These models will assist med-tech companies and pharmaceutical R&D teams in tasks like symptom triage and biomarker discovery.

Founded by Tanishq Abraham, who became the youngest biomedical engineer at 14 and the youngest Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at 19, Sophont collaborates with international medical centers and academic institutions. The funds from this round will be used to expand the research team, accelerate model development, and launch pilot programs with leading healthcare institutions.
