Sophia Space and Redwire Explore Orbital Data Centers
Sophia Space Inc. and Redwire announced in a press release that they signed a memorandum of understanding to explore scalable computing infrastructure in orbit. The companies will combine Sophia Space's modular TILE architecture with Redwire's deployable systems, solar power, thermal management, spacecraft integration, avionics and engineering capabilities.
The planned work covers near term demonstration missions and longer term orbital data center designs. TILE integrates high performance computing, solar power and passive radiative thermal management for AI inference, data processing and other computing workloads in orbit.
The companies also plan to pursue selected United States government and commercial opportunities together. Potential agencies include DARPA, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Space Development Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office.
