SEMIFIVE signs $52 million AI accelerator contract

SEMIFIVE signed a $52 million contract with an unnamed US fabless chip company to develop an AI inference accelerator. Tape out is planned for the first half of 2027, followed by mass production in 2028.

SEMIFIVE said in a press release that it signed a contract worth about KRW 70.3 billion, or $52 million, with an unnamed fabless chip company in the US. The contract covers development of a next generation AI inference accelerator and is SEMIFIVE's largest single contract to date.

SEMIFIVE will manage detailed design, software development, packaging, testing and mass production under its Spec Hand-off model. The accelerator will use LPDDR6 memory, PCIe Gen5 and a Big Die architecture.

Tape out is planned for the first half of 2027. Global mass production for hyperscalers and cloud service providers is scheduled to begin in 2028.
