Samsung Tests Humanoid Robot for Continuous Factory Work
Samsung Electronics is testing a bipedal humanoid robot designed for continuous factory and logistics work, industry sources told the JoongAng Ilbo, as reported by Korea JoongAng Daily. The company is considering the robot among candidates for a CES 2027 showcase in Las Vegas.
Testing is taking place at Samsung's research and development campus in Seoul. The robot is learning to navigate industrial environments and complete repetitive tasks such as transporting goods. Samsung employees and partner company staff are monitoring its operation in three shifts.
The continuous operation target does not require the robot to run for 24 hours on one charge. Industry observers expect Samsung to use battery hot swapping, which lets batteries be replaced without shutting the robot down, as Boston Dynamics and UBTech do.
Samsung created its Robotics eXperience division in July to combine its robotics hardware, software, research and commercialization work. The company plans to test robotics technology in its own manufacturing facilities before expanding into household and service uses.
