Pratt & Whitney Expands AI Engine Inspection Capabilities with Aiir Innovations
Pratt & Whitney, a business of RTX, has expanded its engine inspection capabilities with AI-assisted borescope software through the acquisition and integration of Amsterdam-based Aiir Innovations, according to a press release.
The software applies artificial intelligence to analyze borescope video, assisting inspectors in identifying potential issues faster and with greater consistency. It has been deployed across commercial customers and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) providers, significantly reducing inspection time.
Pratt & Whitney has used the AI system on the V2500 engine and completed pilot programs for the GTF and F135 engines. The company plans to extend its use across additional engine platforms. The technology also adapts based on inspector feedback, improving classification accuracy and reporting quality over time.
Configurable reporting allows inspection processes that once required extensive time to be completed within minutes, aiming to increase turnaround efficiency and maintain higher operational traceability and accuracy.
