Orca AI Launches Co-Captain for Real-Time Collaborative Ship Navigation
Orca AI has launched Co-Captain, a real-time collaborative navigation platform that allows vessels to share operational data and alerts with each other, announced in a press release. The company describes the system as the world's first 'Waze of the Seas', connecting over 1,000 ships equipped with Orca AI technology.
Each participating vessel acts as both a sensor and data source, transmitting anonymized information about local conditions such as traffic density, weather, and navigational hazards. The system provides verified, route-specific alerts for events like severe weather, GNSS interference, piracy risks, and environmental compliance zones.
Co-Captain also distributes real-time warnings about congested areas and potential spoofing or jamming incidents, helping crews adjust speed or course in advance. The platform’s dataset, built from more than 100 million nautical miles of collected information, supports continuous improvement in detection and prediction accuracy.
Orca AI’s network aims to strengthen safety and coordination across global shipping routes, with additional vessels expected to join the system in coming months.
