OpenAI Reveals Roadmap for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5
OpenAI has unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming releases of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, with a focus on simplifying its product offerings and enhancing AI usability. The announcement was made by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, in a post on X.
The next release, GPT-4.5, internally named Orion, will be the last model that does not incorporate chain-of-thought capabilities. This move is part of OpenAI's effort to streamline its offerings and eliminate the need for a model picker, aiming to return to a unified intelligence model.
Following GPT-4.5, OpenAI plans to unify its o-series and GPT-series models. GPT-5 will be introduced in both ChatGPT and the API, integrating various OpenAI technologies, including o3, which will no longer be released as a standalone model. The free tier of ChatGPT will offer unlimited access to GPT-5 at a standard intelligence level, while Plus and Pro subscribers will have access to higher intelligence levels with additional features such as voice, canvas, search, and deep research capabilities.
This strategic shift aims to provide a more seamless and efficient AI experience, making AI more intuitive and accessible for users.
