OpenAI Opens ChatGPT App Submissions to Developers

December 18, 2025
OpenAI has begun accepting app submissions for ChatGPT, allowing developers to publish their creations in a new in-app directory. The Apps SDK, currently in beta, enables the development of chat-native experiences that integrate directly into conversations.

Developers can now submit applications for ChatGPT, OpenAI announced on its website. The company has opened app submissions for review and publication, introducing an in-app directory where users can browse and search for available apps.

The new directory can be accessed via the tools menu in ChatGPT or directly at chatgpt.com/apps. Once connected, apps can be activated during conversations by using the @ symbol or selecting them from the tools menu. OpenAI is also testing ways to automatically suggest relevant apps based on conversation context and usage patterns.

Developers can use the Apps SDK, which remains in beta, to build chat-native experiences that integrate context and actions directly into ChatGPT. Submitted apps will be reviewed through the OpenAI Developer Platform, where creators can track approval status. The first approved apps are expected to roll out early next year.

Apps that meet OpenAI’s quality and safety standards will be published in the directory, and top-performing apps may be featured more prominently. In this initial phase, developers can link their ChatGPT apps to external websites or native apps to complete transactions for physical goods, with additional monetization options planned in the future.

All developers must follow OpenAI’s guidelines on safety, privacy, and transparency. Users will be able to view what data is shared when connecting to third-party apps and can revoke access at any time.
