New AI Framework Promotes Fairness and Trust

The Center for Civil Rights and Technology has released an Innovation Framework to guide AI development, ensuring systems are fair and trusted.

The Center for Civil Rights and Technology has introduced an Innovation Framework designed to guide companies in developing artificial intelligence (AI) systems that are fair, trusted, and safe. Announced in a press release, this framework aims to protect civil rights and promote fairness in AI applications across various sectors, including healthcare, housing, and employment.

The framework outlines four foundational values and ten lifecycle pillars that align with the AI development and deployment pipeline. These guidelines are intended to ensure that AI technologies are implemented in a manner that truly works for everyone, especially communities historically marginalized.

Maya Wiley, President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, emphasized the importance of trustworthy AI, stating that fairness and safety should be integral to AI products. The framework encourages private industries to adopt these principles proactively, without waiting for legislative mandates, to build superior AI technologies that can compete globally.
