Mistral AI Seeks $10 Billion Valuation in New Funding Round

Mistral AI is in talks to raise $1 billion in a new funding round, targeting a valuation of $10 billion, according to the Financial Times. The Paris-based startup, co-founded by Arthur Mensch, aims to use the funds to accelerate the commercial rollout of its Le Chat chatbot and enhance its large language models.
Mistral is engaging with investors, including venture capital firms and Abu Dhabi's AI fund MGX, to secure the funding. The company, which previously raised €600 million in a Series B round, is positioning itself as a European alternative to US and Chinese AI leaders by offering open-source models.
The startup's strategy includes leveraging partnerships with European institutions to promote digital sovereignty. Despite its ambitions, Mistral faces stiff competition from established players like OpenAI and Anthropic, which have significantly higher valuations and market traction.
