MeetKai Brasil Wins SERPRO Contract for Brazil’s Sovereign AI Program
In a press release, SERPRO announced that MeetKai Brasil has been selected as the final winner of its Sovereign AI tender. The decision concludes the federal technology company’s multi-month selection process to identify a partner for developing Brazil’s national AI platform.
SERPRO’s Sovereign AI initiative, known as "IA Soberana," aims to build a platform powered by large language models trained in Portuguese and hosted on Brazilian infrastructure. The system is intended to support modernization of public services, automate administrative tasks, and reduce dependence on foreign technology.
MeetKai Brasil received the highest overall score in technical and functional evaluations. The company’s proposal includes deployment capabilities for national-scale AI infrastructure and post-training optimization for localized language models.
This contract aligns with the Brazilian government’s "IA para o Bem de Todos" plan for 2024 to 2028, which allocates around R$23 billion to AI projects focused on innovation, infrastructure, and technological sovereignty.
