MediaTek Introduces Genio 720 and 520 IoT Platforms for AI Applications
MediaTek has unveiled its latest IoT platforms, the Genio 720 and Genio 520, designed to support generative AI applications, announced in a press release. These platforms were introduced at the Embedded World event in Nuremberg, Germany.
The Genio 720 and 520 platforms are equipped with MediaTek's 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU), delivering up to 10 TOPS for efficient edge processing. They support advanced AI models, including transformer and convolutional neural networks, and offer enhanced memory performance with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory. This makes them suitable for data-intensive applications such as large language models.
Built on a 6nm process node, these platforms feature an octa-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A78 processors and six Cortex-A55 processors, optimizing both performance and power efficiency. They are designed for low-power usage, making them ideal for mobile devices that require fanless enclosures and battery-powered operation.
The Genio 720 and 520 also support a range of multimedia features, including 4K/5K ultrawide display capabilities, dual 2.5K displays, and power-efficient video decoding and encoding. They are compatible with various operating systems, including Android, Yocto Linux, and Ubuntu, and offer a flexible set of high-speed I/O interfaces for system-level expansion.
MediaTek plans to sample these platforms to customers starting in Q2 2025, with partners expected to launch solutions based on these platforms in the second half of the year.
