Linux Foundation Report Finds AI Driving Tech Hiring Growth in Europe
Linux Foundation announced in a press release that AI adoption is expected to drive a 27% net hiring increase in Europe by 2026, with a further 17% rise projected in 2027. The report highlights that AI is a net creator of jobs in IT, despite concerns about automation-related job losses.
Security and privacy challenges remain significant barriers to AI adoption, with 51% and 44% of organizations respectively identifying them as top concerns for 2026. The report also notes that a lack of full stack readiness continues to limit the ability of organizations to capture AI’s full potential.
To address critical workforce shortages, European companies are prioritizing upskilling their existing employees over external hiring. The report states that 63% of organizations favor internal training, citing institutional knowledge and cost efficiency as key reasons. Open source technology is also gaining traction as organizations seek to develop secure and sovereign AI capabilities.
Demand for AI specialist roles in Europe is particularly strong, with a 64% net hiring effect compared to 58% globally. Only the largest organizations report a negative hiring trend, at about 15%.
