Lam Research Plans $3 Billion Lab Network Expansion
Lam Research Corp plans to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years to expand its global research and development lab network, announced in a press release.
The expansion is expected to add infrastructure and capabilities that increase experiment capacity by more than 50%. Lam said its lab network spans the United States, Asia, and Europe, and supports more than one million experiments each year.
The company said the network includes labs for research into chemistries, materials, and mechatronics, process development labs, and technology centers near customer facilities. Lam said the shared network lets tools, data, and expertise move across locations and time zones.
Lam plans to begin the expansion this year. The company said recent customer work using this model has shortened process development by up to 2.5 times.
