ITRI Opens AI Robotics Center in Southern Taiwan

May 20, 2026
The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has opened the AI Robotics Innovation and Development Center in Tainan to advance AI robotics in healthcare, logistics, food services, and disaster response while supporting startups with testing and incubation resources.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has inaugurated the AI Robotics Innovation and Development Center (ARIDC) at its Southern Region Campus in Tainan, announced in a press release. The facility is part of Taiwan's Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects and aims to develop and validate robotics powered by AI for use in healthcare, logistics, food services, and disaster response.

The center is designed to accelerate the adoption of AI by integrating software and hardware through robotics. It will focus on robotic intelligence, motion control, and swarm collaboration to strengthen Taiwan’s competitiveness in intelligent robotics. ITRI stated that the center will connect industry needs with research institutions and government agencies to develop technologies planned for the next five to ten years.

ARIDC includes an incubation space and advanced computing infrastructure optimized for digital twin and collaborative robotics workloads. These systems can support ray tracing, multiple large-scale Universal Scene Description environments, and complex physics simulations. The center also assists startups and small and medium-sized enterprises with commercialization, team formation, and industry matchmaking.

The new facility will serve as a platform linking Taiwan’s National Center for AI Robotics in Shalun and the intelligent robot industry cluster in Liouying Technology Industrial Park, fostering collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutions to advance AI and robotics innovation.
