Hikvision Introduces Guanlan Encoding for AI Video Compression

May 21, 2026
Hikvision has launched Guanlan Encoding, an AI-powered video compression technology that cuts storage needs by up to 50% while maintaining video quality. Built on the H.265 standard, it uses AI to preserve key visual elements and reduce redundant data.

Hikvision has launched Guanlan Encoding, an AI-powered video compression technology that reduces storage requirements by 30 to 50 percent without affecting important image quality, announced in a press release.

Built on the H.265 international standard and powered by Hikvision's Guanlan Large-Scale AI Model, the system integrates AI analysis directly into the encoding process. It identifies key objects such as people and vehicles and preserves them at full clarity while compressing background data. The approach aims to balance image fidelity and storage efficiency.

Guanlan Encoding operates in two modes. Dynamic Sensing adjusts bitrate allocation in real time for complex scenes, while Static Optimization applies stronger compression to low-motion footage. Internal testing showed storage savings ranging from 18 percent in busy environments to 49 percent in low-activity conditions.

The technology is fully compatible with existing H.265 decoders and both Hikvision and third-party equipment. It is available on DeepinView(X)-Series Network and PTZ Cameras, Ultra-Series Cameras, Cameras with ColorVu 3.0, and DVRs, with more product lines to follow. The company states this feature can reduce hardware and power costs across large-scale security deployments.
