HEPCO and Reactive Technologies Enhance Japan's Grid Stability

September 12, 2025
Hokkaido Electric Power Company (HEPCO) partners with Reactive Technologies to improve grid stability in Japan using the GridMetrix platform, supporting the country's carbon neutrality goals.

Hokkaido Electric Power Company (HEPCO) is collaborating with Reactive Technologies to enhance grid stability in Japan. This partnership, announced in a press release, involves the use of Reactive Technologies' GridMetrix platform to improve grid visibility and manage future energy demands.

The GridMetrix platform will be employed to monitor frequency visualization, oscillation monitoring, inertia measurement, and event analysis across HEPCO's networks. This initiative is crucial as Japan transitions to renewable energy sources, which are expected to constitute 40-50% of the country's power generation by 2040.

By leveraging advanced grid management solutions, HEPCO aims to address the challenges posed by the increasing share of renewables, such as intermittency and variability. This collaboration represents a significant step towards achieving Japan's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
