GlobalFoundries Acquires AMF and InfiniLink to Expand Silicon Photonics Capabilities

November 27, 2025
GlobalFoundries has acquired Advanced Micro Foundry and InfiniLink to strengthen its position in silicon photonics for AI data centers, expanding both manufacturing and design capabilities across Singapore, Egypt, and the U.S.

GlobalFoundries announced the acquisition of Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF) and InfiniLink, expanding its silicon photonics business to meet growing demand from AI data centers and high-speed communications. The acquisitions strengthen the company’s global manufacturing and design capabilities across Singapore, Egypt, and the United States.

AMF, a silicon photonics foundry based in Singapore, brings a 200 mm production platform and expertise in data center and long-haul optical communications. GlobalFoundries plans to maintain operations on AMF’s existing lines while preparing to transition to 300 mm production in Singapore. The company also intends to establish a Silicon Photonics Center of Excellence in collaboration with A*STAR to develop next-generation optical technologies.

InfiniLink, a Cairo-based startup specializing in optical connectivity chips, adds design expertise in high-speed SerDes and optical transceiver chipsets. Its integration enhances GlobalFoundries’ in-house design capabilities and supports the development of complete optical engine modules for pluggable and co-packaged optics.

The combined operations will enable end-to-end photonics solutions, from design IP and process development to packaged modules. GlobalFoundries expects the acquisitions to accelerate product innovation in areas such as sensing, LiDAR, and quantum computing while improving supply chain resilience through expanded regional manufacturing.
