Feldera Raises $21.5 Million to Cut Database Compute Costs

Feldera raised $21.5 million across two funding rounds for its incremental database processing platform. The total includes a $15.4 million Series A led by Inovia Capital, with participation from Costanoa Ventures and Battery Ventures. Costanoa led the separate $6.1 million seed round, joined by Databricks and Anyscale cofounder Ion Stoica.

The platform converts SQL queries into incremental programs that process changed data instead of repeatedly scanning entire databases. It connects with existing data warehouses, data lakes, and pipelines without requiring customers to rewrite their SQL. Feldera says the approach can reduce compute costs and processing times by at least 95 percent, with some customers cutting infrastructure costs by more than 100 times.

Feldera is based on Database Stream Processing, or DBSP, a mathematical framework developed by its founders. The company was founded in 2023 by former VMware researchers Lalith Suresh, Leonid Ryzhyk, Mihai Budiu, Ben Pfaff, and Gerd Zellweger.
