Deutsche Telekom Says AI Workloads Will Move Closer to Devices

Oct 14, 2026
Deutsche Telekom expects more AI processing to move closer to users and devices as emerging applications demand lower latency and more consistent network performance.

Deutsche Telekom expects more AI processing to move from distant data centers toward users and devices, according to RCR Wireless. Telekom Deutschland CEO Rodrigo Diehl said local processing will be needed for workloads that cannot tolerate delays from remote server farms.

Diehl said robots and other AI enabled machines operating outside factories and private campus networks will require better latency, lower jitter, and more consistent service quality. Networks could adjust speed, latency, network slices, and other service characteristics based on the needs of each device or application.

The company also expects 6G networks to sense, interpret, and act on information instead of only transporting data. Deutsche Telekom is already applying AI to fiber deployment and network operations, with a longer term plan for fully autonomous network management.
