Cox Automotive Study Shows Dealers Embracing AI for Measurable Outcomes
The majority of automotive dealers believe artificial intelligence will be a permanent part of retail operations, according to a new study by Cox Automotive. The company's AI Readiness in Auto Retail report found that 81% of dealers see AI as here to stay, and 63% say investing in it now is critical for long-term success.
Dealers using AI reported better revenue and operational efficiency, with marketing identified as a key entry point for adoption. About 60% of dealers are testing AI tools, and nearly 15% have integrated them into workflows. The most common use cases include automated customer messaging, personalized communication, and predictive insights on purchase readiness.
Despite growing adoption, concerns remain. Seventy-four percent of dealers cited worries about AI accuracy, 60% expressed doubts about data and algorithms, and two-thirds said they need more education and training. The study notes that successful implementations are often tied to partnerships with established providers such as Cox Automotive, which offer proven industry experience and secure data practices.
