Cognizant Partners with North Carolina Turnpike Authority for Tolling System Overhaul
Cognizant has announced a strategic partnership with the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) to develop a next-generation tolling back-office system, announced in a press release. This collaboration aims to revolutionize toll operations by implementing a scalable, API-driven architecture that integrates with partners like Mastercard and Volvo Car USA.
The initiative seeks to eliminate the need for traditional toll transponders, allowing drivers to pay tolls directly through Volvo's infotainment system. Cognizant's expertise in IoT and API development will be central to enabling a successful proof of concept, paving the way for infrastructure-less tolling and immediate revenue recognition for NCTA.
James J. Eden, Executive Director of the N.C. Turnpike Authority, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its role in delivering innovative, customer-centered transportation solutions for North Carolina. This project represents a significant shift towards agile, digital-first tolling models, with Cognizant leading the technology orchestration across all systems.
