Bullen Ultrasonics received a $23,100 Ohio Smart Manufacturing Program grant for an AI and machine learning project with Phenx to optimize manufacturing processes.

Bullen Ultrasonics has received a $23,100 Ohio Smart Manufacturing Program grant to support its Autonomous Process Optimization project, the company announced in a press release.

The Ohio company is working with Phenx to analyze about 2 billion data points from its customized manufacturing equipment. The project uses AI and machine learning to find ways to improve process stability, efficiency, and consistency.

The work began with an analysis of historical production data. Phenx then built a digital twin of the targeted manufacturing process so the companies can test algorithms and process changes with production data before making changes on the factory floor.

The current phase is focused on validating the optimization algorithm inside the digital twin. After that, Bullen plans to pilot the algorithm on one machine and measure its performance during an extended test period.
