Boston Dynamics and Google DeepMind Integrate Gemini AI into Industrial Robots

April 16, 2026
Boston Dynamics has partnered with Google Cloud and DeepMind to embed Gemini AI models into its Spot and Orbit systems, enhancing visual inspection and autonomous decision-making capabilities.

Boston Dynamics has partnered with Google Cloud and its AI research division, DeepMind, to integrate Gemini AI models into its robots, according to AI Business.

The collaboration includes embedding Google’s Gemini models into Boston Dynamics’ robot dog, Spot, and the AI Visual Inspection (AIVI) feature of its fleet management platform, Orbit. At the core of this integration is Gemini Robotics-ER 1.6, a robot-specific reasoning model released on April 14.

DeepMind said the updated Gemini Robotics-ER model improves spatial understanding and reasoning, serving as a high-level control system that helps robots interpret and act within complex environments. The model is designed to enhance autonomy and precision in industrial settings.

Boston Dynamics stated that incorporating Gemini will expand Spot and Orbit’s visual inspection capabilities, allowing for more detailed and accurate asset monitoring. The systems will also gain the ability to continuously learn from their environments, supporting more autonomous decision-making over time.

This partnership follows earlier collaborations between the companies, including the integration of Gemini models into Boston Dynamics’ Atlas humanoid robot announced in January.
