Blue Water Autonomy, Inc. has opened a new office in Washington, D.C., and hired Ryan Maatta, a former engineer from DARPA's NOMARS program, to accelerate its autonomous ship development efforts. This expansion is part of the company's strategy to enhance its collaboration with the U.S. Navy, as stated in a press release.

The new office in the capital aims to support the company's growth and improve accessibility for its Navy clients. The move comes amid increased focus on unmanned ship technology, with the latest defense budget allocating $2.1 billion for Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel funding.

Ryan Maatta, who joins the team with extensive experience in marine engineering, previously held a senior technical leadership role on the USX-1 Defiant, a vessel developed for DARPA's No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) Program. His addition follows the recent hiring of COO Tim Glinatsis, formerly of General Dynamics NASSCO and Bath Iron Works, further strengthening Blue Water Autonomy's leadership team.
