Dutch startup Axelera AI has raised $250 million to expand production and commercialization of its energy-efficient AI inference chips, according to Sifted. The new round brings the company’s total funding to $450 million across equity, debt, and grants, making it one of Europe’s best-funded semiconductor startups.

The funding round was led by Innovation Industries, with participation from BlackRock, SiteGround Capital, and existing backers including the European Innovation Council Fund, Samsung Catalyst Fund, and Invest-NL. Axelera AI plans to use the capital to expand manufacturing, strengthen its customer support network, and further develop its software tools and SDKs.

Founded in 2021 and based in Eindhoven, the company designs chips optimized for AI inference at the edge—running tasks locally on devices rather than in the cloud. Its architecture focuses on power efficiency and reduced bandwidth needs, addressing the growing energy and cooling constraints faced by data centers.

Axelera AI’s technology has already shipped to more than 500 customers across industries such as robotics, manufacturing, agritech, and security. The company aims to increase production capacity and expand its global commercial reach as demand for localized, energy-efficient AI computing continues to rise.
