ASIC Tightens Rules for AI Trading Systems
The Australian Securities and Investment Commission is amending its market integrity rules to strengthen controls over trading systems and algorithms, including those using AI and machine learning, it stated in an announcement. The changes apply to securities and futures markets.
Market participants will need to test, monitor and govern their trading systems. The technology neutral rules also clarify requirements concerning false or misleading market appearances and align more closely with standards from the International Organization of Securities Commissions and other international bodies.
The amendments will take effect in 2028 after an 18 month transition period. ASIC is also consulting on revised regulatory guidance, with feedback due by 5 p.m. AEDT on November 5, 2026.
