Ascend Analytics SmartBidder Passes 5.2 GW of Battery Storage Under Management
Ascend Analytics said in a press release that its SmartBidder platform now optimizes more than 5.2 GW of operating battery energy storage capacity in U.S. wholesale power markets. The portfolio covers more than 30 customers, with about 4 GW in ERCOT, 1 GW in CAISO and 200 MW in PJM.
The company said it passed 5 GW in the second quarter of 2026 after adding assets for California Community Power and San Diego Community Power. Those organizations have contracted storage capacity to serve loads they manage directly or for their members.
SmartBidder supports batteries ranging from 3 MW to 300 MW, with durations from one hour to eight hours. The platform is used for standalone assets, hybrid resources and storage colocated with wind and solar facilities.
Ascend said SmartBidder combines short term price forecasting with automated bid optimization for energy and ancillary services markets. The system manages state of charge, degradation and contractual limits across day ahead and live markets.
