Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has publicly opposed a proposed 10-year moratorium on state-level AI regulation, advocating instead for federal transparency standards.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has publicly opposed a proposed 10-year moratorium on state-level AI regulation, as reported by Semafor. The proposal, part of President Donald Trump's tax cut bill, aims to prevent states from regulating artificial intelligence for a decade.

Amodei argues that such a moratorium is "far too blunt an instrument" given the rapid advancements in AI technology. Instead, he advocates for a national framework that would require AI developers to disclose their safety testing practices and efforts to mitigate risks. This approach, he suggests, would ensure that AI models are thoroughly safety-tested before being released to the public.

In his New York Times opinion piece, Amodei emphasized the need for coordinated governance frameworks that balance innovation with appropriate safeguards. He highlighted that while major AI companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind voluntarily release safety information, legislative incentives might become necessary as AI models grow more powerful.
