Andromeda Secures $23 Million for US Expansion of Humanoid Robots
Andromeda, an Australian robotics startup, has raised $23 million in a Series A funding round to support the expansion of its humanoid robot, Abi, into the United States. The funding round was led by San Francisco-based Forerunner Ventures, with participation from Rethink Impact, Artesian, Main Sequence, Visible Ventures, Trampoline, and Startmate.
The company, co-founded by Grace Brown and Yan Chen in 2022, aims to address loneliness in aged care facilities with its AI-enabled companion robot, Abi. The robot is designed to interact with residents, support staff in group activities, and provide companionship in multiple languages.
The new funding will allow Andromeda to accelerate its US expansion and scale operations in Australia. The company is hiring across various roles, including engineering and customer success, and is seeking animatronics specialists in the US. The latest iteration of the robot, Genesis Abi, is set to be deployed in a Mecwacare facility this month, featuring enhanced autonomy and interaction capabilities.
