Amazon Names Peter DeSantis to Lead New AI Organization
Amazon has appointed longtime executive Peter DeSantis to lead a newly formed artificial intelligence organization, reports Reuters. The new unit will oversee the company’s AI models, custom silicon programs, and quantum computing projects.
DeSantis, a 27-year veteran of the company, previously led infrastructure and utility computing for Amazon Web Services, managing global data centers and cloud operations. He also directed the 2015 acquisition of Annapurna Labs, the team behind Amazon’s Graviton and Trainium chips.
The reorganization follows the departure of Rohit Prasad, who helped build the Alexa voice assistant and led Amazon’s AI initiatives in recent years. CEO Andy Jassy said in a message to employees that the company is entering a critical phase with technologies that will power many future customer experiences.
Amazon’s new AI group consolidates its Nova model development, chip design, and quantum computing work under a single leadership structure as the company continues investing heavily in artificial intelligence and related infrastructure.
