Airbus Partners with Mistral AI for Aerospace and Defence Applications
Airbus has formed a partnership with Mistral AI to strengthen the use of artificial intelligence across its aerospace operations, announced in a press release. The collaboration aims to integrate AI into Airbus’s commercial aircraft, helicopter, defence, and space activities while maintaining strict security and sovereignty requirements.
Under the agreement, Airbus will license Mistral AI’s full product suite, allowing deployment of models on premises or in trusted cloud environments. The company will also gain access to Mistral’s research teams and contribute to shaping its product roadmap to develop tailored AI solutions for complex aerospace challenges.
The partnership identifies several initial areas of cooperation. These include automating technical document production, accelerating engineering design cycles through AI simulations, and deploying AI models on board aircraft and spacecraft for functions such as automatic object recognition to improve flight safety. Defence applications will include cyber investigation and coding support in secure environments.
According to Airbus, this collaboration supports its plan to embed trusted AI throughout its operations, while Mistral AI stated that its integrated AI stack will be used to enhance innovation and safety across Airbus products.
