AI-Powered Ultrasonic Inspection Debuts at Ringhals Nuclear Plant
Trueflaw Ltd. and EPRI have introduced AI-powered ultrasonic inspection at the Ringhals Nuclear Power Plant in Sweden, marking a first in the nuclear industry. Announced in a press release, this system, developed by Trueflaw and EPRI, has been qualified for use in non-destructive evaluation of pressure vessel head penetrations.
The inspection process, conducted by Wesdyne, utilizes AI to pre-screen data and highlight potential defects, which are then reviewed by human experts. This integration of AI reduces the time required for data analysis from hours to minutes, enhancing efficiency and reliability while minimizing human error.
The Swedish Qualification Centre has issued the qualification for this AI system, underscoring its compliance with stringent reliability and regulatory standards. This milestone demonstrates the potential of AI to meet high industry requirements, as noted by Trueflaw's CEO, Iikka Virkkunen.
