May 15, 2026
A new report projects that Africa's data center construction market will reach $4.58 billion by 2031, driven by investments from major cloud providers including Google, Microsoft, and AWS.

The Africa data center construction market is projected to reach 4.58 billion US dollars by 2031, growing at a compound annual rate of 24.26 percent, according to a report by Arizton. The expansion is being fueled by major investments from global cloud providers such as Google, Microsoft Corporation, and Amazon Web Services.

South Africa is expected to account for the largest share of these investments due to its established infrastructure and strong connectivity. Other countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, and Egypt, are also emerging as important hubs for data center development as enterprise demand for colocation and cloud services increases.

Nigeria is forecast to be the fastest growing market, with investment rising from 132 million dollars in 2025 to nearly 770 million dollars by 2031. The growth is driven by expanding digital infrastructure and increased cloud adoption across the continent.

Major operators such as Teraco, Africa Data Centres, NTT DATA, and Vantage Data Centers are expanding their facilities to meet demand for cloud, colocation, and AI ready infrastructure across Africa.
