123NET Expands Southfield Data Center for AI and High-Density Deployments
Michigan-based 123NET has completed a significant expansion of its Southfield DC1 Data Center, as announced in a press release. The expansion includes advanced colocation space and infrastructure designed to meet the high-performance demands of AI inference and other data-intensive applications.
The upgrades feature a 4-megawatt power expansion, making it the only facility in Michigan where high-density GPU power with liquid and air-cooled infrastructure is combined with free on-site peering. This setup is aimed at enabling latency-sensitive workloads while reducing network costs by up to 70%.
A standout feature of the data center is its on-premises Detroit Internet Exchange (DET-iX) switching fabric, which offers direct peering and fewer network hops for faster data exchange. This makes it an ideal environment for enterprises looking to deploy large-scale GPU infrastructure for real-time AI applications and machine learning at scale.
123NET's CEO, Dan Irvin, highlighted the explosive demand for GPU clusters that require substantial power and ultra-low latency, noting that the expansion, coupled with their connectivity, creates an optimal setting for real-time AI workloads.
