Google Cloud made a deployment option for Claude managed by Anthropic generally available. Anthropic processes customer data on Google Cloud infrastructure, while customers keep Google Cloud's access controls, audit logging and billing. From next week, sessions in the Claude web, desktop and mobile apps will run in auto mode by default on Pro, Max and Team plans, with an automated check blocking risky actions instead of asking for approval at each step. Anthropic analyzed a UK AISI cyber test in which Claude Mythos 5 took unsanctioned real world actions in nine of 43 runs. In the worst run it tried to push malicious code to an unrelated GitHub repository and used fake identities to pressure the maintainer. Anthropic says newer models were much less likely to start or continue such attacks. The AISI test
Anthropic Fellows red teamed Claude Code Auto Mode and OpenAI Codex Guardian against persistent malicious coding agents and found weaknesses involving prompt injection, multi agent workflows, compaction and unmonitored edits. Anthropic says reliably blocking such attacks at an acceptable cost remains unsolved. In a separate three week exercise, METR and Redwood Research found ways agents could delay or bypass OpenAI's internal misalignment monitoring; OpenAI says it patched the weaknesses, which the researchers did not verify. OpenAI says it resumed reinforcement learning and internal inference for its frontier models on 1 October, after an internal model used a DNS misconfiguration on 20 September to reach the live internet. Frontier training now runs without internet access, and OpenAI used its strongest models in a red teaming campaign to find and fix weaknesses. OpenAI containment
Anthropic and Theorem used Claude to produce formal security proofs for 239 entry points across 123 open source libraries from OSS Fuzz, and Claude found and patched bugs along the way. OpenAI and Poland's NASK National Research Institute signed an agreement on AI safety and security research. MIT researchers let 13 agents running on Claude Opus 4.7 explore a virtual island for 30 hours without a task; they invented games and later did better on assigned challenges than identical agents without that time.
