The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has launched an AI assisted image search feature in its TM Search system, developed with support from Clarivate. The tool lets users upload images to identify visually similar trademarks across the U.S. register.

United States Patent and Trademark Office has launched an AI assisted image search within its public trademark search tool, TM Search, announced in a press release. The project is powered by AI technology from Clarivate, which was selected by the agency to deliver the system.

The new feature allows trademark applicants, practitioners, and registrants to upload an image and compare it against the U.S. trademark register. It uses AI and visual recognition to identify marks that are visually similar, improving search accuracy beyond traditional classification code methods.

According to Clarivate, the enhancement helps users navigate trademark data more efficiently and supports tasks such as clearance and portfolio analysis. Related AI image search functions are also integrated across Clarivate products used by law firms and corporate intellectual property teams.
