UAE Offers Free ChatGPT Plus Access in OpenAI Partnership
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will become the first country to offer free access to ChatGPT Plus for all its citizens and residents. This initiative is part of a significant collaboration with OpenAI under the 'Stargate UAE' project, which aims to establish the world's largest AI supercomputing cluster. Typically priced at $20 per month, ChatGPT Plus will now be available at no cost in the UAE.
The partnership involves the construction of a massive AI supercomputing hub in collaboration with Abu Dhabi-based G42. This project is part of OpenAI's "OpenAI for Countries" initiative, which seeks to help nations develop AI infrastructure aligned with their national priorities. The first data center is expected to go live next year, with G42 also co-investing in similar U.S.-based OpenAI data centers.
OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has been actively pursuing the development of large-scale data centers globally, and this new deal with the UAE marks a significant step in that direction. The initiative has sparked discussions in Washington, with some officials expressing concerns over national security and questioning why such projects aren't being developed domestically.
