Tencent Games Motus Shows AI Animation Pipeline at Gamescom

Tencent Games Motus showcased an AI animation pipeline at Gamescom that connects rigging, skinning, motion generation, motion refinement, and real time character interaction.

Tencent Games Motus showcased a complete AI animation pipeline for 3D character creation at Gamescom Dev and Gamescom, announced in a press release. The Motus team focuses on intelligent character creation and builds on generative animation foundation models from Tencent Games.

The pipeline connects rigging, skinning, motion generation from text, video, and keyframes, motion refinement, and real time character interaction. It can analyze character topology, generate skeletons, produce skinning weights, and create motion for single characters and multi character scenes.

Motus also includes tools to detect and correct animation defects such as jitter, mesh penetration, joint anomalies, and foot sliding. At the final stage, audio or text can drive facial expressions, body movement, and interactive responses for intelligent NPCs, digital humans, and virtual presenters.

On August 24, Motus technical lead and expert researcher Zijiao Zeng presented the pipeline at Gamescom Dev. Visitors at the Gamescom Dev and Gamescom booths could use a demo that turned text prompts into 3D animation.
