Spotlite Launches IP Protection Beta for Creator Likeness Control
Spotlite has launched the closed beta of IP Protection, a tool designed to help creators identify and manage unauthorized use of their likeness online, announced in a press release.
The product allows creators to upload an image of their face, after which it performs a reverse image search across the internet. Results are automatically classified by risk level, and users can generate takedown reports to act on unauthorized appearances. The system aims to give creators visibility and control over how their likeness is used, particularly in AI generated or synthetic media.
Spotlite co-founder Benjamin Alexander Hori said the feature extends the company’s mission of transparency for creators into the AI era. The company originally focused on helping models track earnings and payments; IP Protection now addresses how their faces are used without consent.
The beta launch coincides with new regulations that strengthen protections for digital likeness rights. These include New York’s Fashion Workers Act, California’s AB 2602, Illinois’s HB 4875, and the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act, which criminalizes non-consensual deepfakes.
