Scandit Introduces Automated Age Verification for Self Checkout

July 09, 2026
Scandit has launched Age Verified Self-Checkout, a solution that automates age verification for restricted retail purchases using facial estimation or ID scanning. It verifies most customers in under ten seconds without app downloads or data transmission.

Scandit announced in a press release the launch of Age Verified Self-Checkout, a solution designed to automate verification of age-restricted purchases such as alcohol, tobacco and medication. The system reduces manual intervention and checkout delays while improving compliance.

The solution enables customers to verify their age in less than ten seconds through facial estimation or ID scanning, with no app download required. Processing occurs entirely on the shopper's device, and no biometric or ID data is transmitted or stored by Scandit or retailers.

According to the company, 80 percent of verification checks are completed automatically and are six times faster than manual methods. Retailers using the system can expect quicker queues and up to five percent more transactions across their self-checkout lanes.

Built on Scandit Smart Data Capture with vision AI, the product marks the company’s first entry into biometric technology and allows full implementation without additional kiosk hardware.
