OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called attempts to ascribe religious force to AI models a safety issue, according to Axios. He also objected to people surrendering human judgment to AI systems.

Axios linked the remarks to work at Anthropic concerning whether AI models could be moral or conscious. The company has reportedly approached scholars from multiple faiths as part of that work.
